How the Conversions Work

HEX values are converted to RGB by reading each pair of hex digits as the red, green and blue channels (0–255). RGB is converted to HSL by finding the hue based on which channel is largest, and calculating saturation and lightness from the maximum and minimum channel values. Converting back from HSL to RGB reverses this process.
